Henrietta Lacks: The immortal woman
Lacks was diagnosed with cervical cancer and a sample of her diseased cells was taken and sent to laboratory. Soon it was discovered that Lacks’ cells are durable. Today, these incredible cells, named HeLa as a tribute to Lacks, are being used to study possible treatments for cancer cells without experimenting with humans, among others. Although Lacks died in 1951 her cells continue to save the world.
